In this research we look at how physician assistants can help the current health human resource challenges faced by Canadian healthcare systems. We explore funding models to broadly integrate PAs into three practice settings: primary care, emergency care, and orthopedic surgery.

Chris Viel

Chris Viel
Chris comes from an interdisciplinary background in both core and social sciences, holding undergraduate degrees in both biology and gerontology. Following this, he completed his Masters in Health Science in epidemiology at Lakehead University, where he received The Frederick Banting & Charles Best Canadian Graduate Scholarship for his multi-province work examining the impact of supervisor workplace mental health training. In February 2023, Chris joined The Conference Board of Canada as a Research Associate with their Health knowledge area. He has a diverse resume in both clinical and applied research, with experience in the fields of mental health, workplace/workforce injury and disability, seniors' healthcare and Indigenous health. In addition to these experiences, Chris has a keen interest in health policy, economics and outcomes research, which have been the focus of his mentorships and professional development over the last three years.
