Advanced Comprehensive Suturing Workshop Advanced Comprehensive Suturing Workshop Physician Assistants have a multifaceted job role and being able to suture is something that beused across a wide range of specialties. Join me a Plastic Surgical PA at the CAPA convention October 2023 for Live demonstrations as well as hands on workshop of suturing course. Improving your skill set for any level.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to:
1. Learn and practice different suturing techniques
2. Apply local Anesthesia
3. Determine how to choose the suture based on the tissue type and tension in the area
4. Explain how to be efficient in suturing
5. Identify the needle size and which one is used where
6. Tie a surgeon’s knot, instrument tie single hand ties and both hands
7. Explain what kind of suturing style to use and practicing, simple interrupted, horizontal mattress, vertical mattress, simple running (baseball) subcuticular stich, deep buried
8. Close wound under tension
9. Recall prepping and draping sterile area
10. Explain staplers and removal technique
11. Identify post procedure when to remove, should we remove

Doris Hansen MS_PA-C, is a board certified physician assistant at the Toronto Cosmetic Surgical Institute better known as “Six Surgery”, located in downtown Toronto, Canada. She graduated from Wagner College PA school where she completed her undergrad and masters in a 5 year program. She has worked in various specialties in various locations including Pediatric Neurology in Brooklyn, NY, a traveling Primary Care PA in rural California and Reconstructive and hand surgery PA in Cooperstown, NY. Currently she has been working in Toronto for over three years. She recently started a small business venture dedicated to scars, incorporating medical tattooing and medical interventions to improve patients scar outcome. She has been actively advocating for the PA profession since 2015 and hoping that it can live up and be valued at its full potential. She has done a previous workshops with CAPA and delighted to return to in person conference.
